3. Shield-Bearer

OSV Podcasts Episode 3

Episode 3: The Israelites march into what should be a sure victory against the Philistines. But when Saul’s battle commands end in death and retreat, he falls into distress, and David, his new psalmist and shield-bearer, is sent back to Bethlehem.

Story synopsis: After years of warring factions and corruption of the priests and prophets, the Israelites demand that God give them a king. Despite the warning of the prophet Samuel, King Saul is anointed. While Saul is a great warrior and leader, God is angered when he unlawfully offers a sacrifice and disobeys divine instruction. Learning that the kingdom will be taken from him, Saul becomes increasingly paranoid. As Saul slips into madness a future king begins to rise, one who is arguably the greatest king the world has ever seen: King David.
